Mountain Life is an award-winning Canadian mountain culture magazine publishing across the country since 2003 through their Coast Mountains, Blue Mountains and Vie en Montagne magazines. I joined the team to launch the semi-annual Mountain Life Rockies regional magazine and now lead the editorial vision, photography and illustration selections for each issue. I contribute to the magazine through editorials and the odd feature article from time to time,.

This project is a foray into slow journalism that encompasses both the historical and current politically-charged context of development and environmental issues in Canmore, Alberta. The approach I’ve taken is to provide digestible context and resources that help the community to feel empowered with a broader understanding of the unique challenges related to urban development and the Bow Valley environment.

I produced roughly a dozen custom fundraising packages used to secure major donors (like Husky Energy, RBC, and Rogers), resulting in over $2M in confirmed donations during my time, wrote numerous press releases and stories and generated creative advertising concepts.

As online editor of the Banff Centre Blog (now known as Banff Centre Stories) I collaborated with representative members of all Banff Centre departments, helping them to capture stories about the resident artists and performers and publishing these weekly on the platform.

I co-founded Highline Magazine in 2008 and was publisher and creative director from that time until it’s close in 2016. I had a hand in editing all the stories that we published, as well as contributing numerous articles to the magazine, ranging in style from creative writing to more in-depth journalistic pieces. Some of my own stories are featured in the Highline Magazine section of this site.

As Communications Specialist for Digital and Print Publications and blog editor, many of the stories I compiled for digital and print publication were submissions from our members, ambassadors, staff and volunteers. The job entailed mentoring writers, copy editing, and creating original content for the ACC’s digital and print publications as well as for social media channels associated with the ACC.
